A St David’s Day special at Boots in Swansea has raised a stack of cash for a deserving cause.
Staff at the store in the city’s busy Quadrant Shopping Centre pulled out all the stops to celebrate the day and the 120th anniversary of the first Boots store in Wales – just down the road in Oxford Street in 1896.
Shoppers were treated to a singing session from local male voice choir the Belmont Singers in the morning followed by a gig from Sketty band Bandicoot in the afternoon and over £400 has already been raised for Children in Need.
There was also a consignment of hot and fresh Welsh cakes from Swansea Market which were snapped up at 25p each and a clog-dancing display courtesy of the Ty Tawe Centre.
Boots Beauty Manager Kelly Smith, who even donned a Pudsey outfit for the occasion, said: “The first Boots in Wales was in Swansea and today Boots stores all over the country have celebrated that 120th anniversary and rarised funds for Children in Need.
“And it was appropriate that here at the Quadrant we raised more money than any other store and we aren’t finished yet because we have a Welsh rugby shirt signed by all the players which we are raffling off.
“It’s been a brilliant day here and we’ve had lots of fun. The Belmont Singers were fantastic and so were Bandicoot. We’ve had lots of support and everyone has enjoyed themselves.”
Lisa Hartley, Manager of the Quadrant Shopping Centre, said: “It’s been a wonderful day at Boots and there has been a great atmosphere in the Centre.
“I’m sure everyone has enjoyed themselves with a real flavour of Wales for St David’s Day.”
