Corbett are set to pay out over a £1m if Wales win Euro 2016

A Welsh betting firm based in Deeside could payout over £1m to punters who backed the Welsh football team at odds of 100/1 to win Euro 2016 before the team kicked a ball in France. Banner

Corbett Sports took a flurry of bets on Chris Coleman’s men during May.

Punters backed Gareth Bale and his team mates at odds up to100/1, and any further progress for the semi finalists in Euro 2016 could result in a £1m payout for the family owned betting firm.

Punters have been seeking a number of outsider bets since Leicester City shocked the sporting world by winning the Premier League title in May.

Wales, led by Gareth Bale, were seen by many as a fanciful outside bet before the tournament started but are now just 180 minutes away from winning the tournament and yet again upsetting the odds in football twice in one year.

Michael Corbett, managing director at Corbett Sports, said: “As a Welsh betting firm we are completely torn – we desperately want to see Wales continue this magnificent adventure – but we face a huge payout of over £1m pounds if the boys in red win Euro 2016.

“We thought we had seen it all with Leicester City this year – but a Wales win would be great for the heart, but terrible for our betting shops!”
