Film fans will be travelling through time at a cinema in Wrexham later this month.

A special double bill will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the popular Back to the Future franchise at the Odeon at Eagles Meadow shopping centre on October 21.

The  cinema is screening both Back to the Future 1 and 2 on that night and is looking to find the biggest Back to the Future fans to watch it as their guests.

The comic science-fiction Back to the Future films followed the adventures of Marty and the scatty inventor.

In the first 1985 film, teenager Marty aka actor Michael J Fox is sent back in time to 1955, where he meets his future parents, then high school students.

His mother-to-be forms a crush on him, an infatuation he has to quash in order for his parents to fall in love.

The end of the movie sees Marty returning to his original timezone, where together with the inventor Doc Brown, he travels to 21 October, 2015.

The film became the highest-grossing of 1985, making more than £197 million worldwide. It also received four Academy Award nominations, winning one Oscar for sound effects editing.

Two sequels were made, Back to the Future Part II, set in 2015, and Back to the Future Part III, set in 1885.

Odeon manager Andy Elvis said: “There’s already a great deal of interest in our Back to the Future double bill.

“The films were fantastically popular when they first came out and they are remembered with great affection by loads of people.

“They are certainly among my movie favourites and it’s going to be a cracking night.”

Meanwhile, Back to the Future actor Christopher Lloyd has returned as inventor Doc Brown to celebrate the date on which he and Marty McFly first arrive in the future.

Lloyd has made the short film Doc Brown Saves the World, marking the 1985 film’s end date of 21 October, 2015.

Universal has released a teaser for it, to be included in the 30th anniversary re-issue of the full Back to Future trilogy.

Lloyd’s eccentric time-travelling inventor Emmett “Doc” Brown is seen getting out of the film’s now legendary DeLorean time machine sports car.

What then goes on to unfold is left for fans to conjecture, in true “teaser” style.

Earlier this year, Lloyd also reprised the role in another teaser, this time for the video game Lego Dimensions.

Michael J Fox credited the films’ enduring appeal to its central relationship – between the unassuming teenager and his eccentric mentor.

“When you’re 17, a lot of things don’t seem possible. Doc shows Marty what is possible and he accepts him as he is, and invites him to share the adventure.”

The actor also paid tribute to Lloyd, saying he had never seen another actor as accomplished at making reams of exposition interesting: “He’s a genius.”

It was a view supported by Eagles Meadow manager Kevin Critchley who said: “I loved all the Back to the Future films and I’m sure it’s going to be a great night of nostalgia and film fun.”
