More than 300 walkers are expected to take part in the annual Bala Challenge Charity Walks on Saturday, May 9.

Routes include the eight mile family walk to Llanuwchllyn, the 14 mile hike around the stunning Llyn Tegid or the full 20 mile Challenge that incorporates part of the Aran ridge. Many will raise funds for their chosen cause, however, fundraising is optional and walkers you can just enjoy the walk if they wish.

Organised by the Bala and Penylln Rotary Club, this will be the 11th consecutive year of the Challenge with in excess of £50,000 raised to date for good causes. This year looks like being a particularly strong turnout with more than 80 participants pre-registered.

If you haven’t signed up yet, there is still time to enter or you can just pay on the day and join in the fun!

Features of the Event include: free car parking at the start, route description with local information notes, improved route marking, return transport where required, feeding station at check-points, light refreshments at the finish and certificates for all finishers.

The Bala Challenge Charity Walks provide an ideal fundraising opportunity. Many charities have benefitted from the event as walkers attract sponsorship for their chosen cause, including Breast Cancer Care for the first time this year.

More than 50 sponsored walkers have entered already and hope to raise significant funds. The RNLI is also advertising the event to its supporters. Remember that the Bala Lake Railway is an ideal way to round off your day in style!
