Award-winning North Wales builder Anwyl Construction have moved into their brand new headquarters just off the A55 at Ewloe, in Flintshire.

The family company, which employs 150 staff, has been based in Rhyl since 1930 but has outgrown its long-term home in the town’s Mona Terrace.

Rhyl will still be home to their specialist joinery workshop which makes many of the doors, windows, staircases and reception counters for its housebuilding and contracts divisions.

While Anwyl will begin operating from St David’s Park immediately, they also plan an official opening of the new build in the early summer.

Director Tom Anwyl said: “It is the end of an era and a wrench to leave Rhyl but we needed larger premises and somewhere close to the A55 as we embark on major expansion plans.

“Those plans are already taking place with the company having won over £40 million in new contracts for this year and with a host of exciting new ventures not just in North Wales but also across the border.

“Rhyl remains special to us as a family firm because it is where my great-grandfather founded the firm in 1930 but our bespoke joinery workshop will continue there and play its part in training up the next generation of apprentices.

“We’re also delighted that that all but two of the headquarters staff have come with us to Ewloe and the two that are leaving have found new employment with some of our suppliers.”

The company’s new 15,000 square foot headquarters has car parking space for 65 and is just yards from the A55.

Work on it started in May and has been completed a couple of months ahead of schedule.

Tom Anwyl added: “We are planning to build over 600 houses over the next three years and that includes major sites in Sandbach, Willaston and Congleton in Cheshire.

“We are also proposing to start sites in Shropshire and have important developments planned for Liverpool where we will build two multi-storey apartment blocks.

“We also have a large volume of contract work that is both ongoing and in the pipeline with existing works at Chester, Chirk and in Newtown in Mid Wales and further contract announcements in the pipeline.

“All that means we need more people and larger, purpose-built premises and that has dictated that we should move and the proximity to the A55 was the key factor.

“We are also building a new £2.5 million headquarters for a major client, Wales and West Housing, next door to us in Ewloe and that has helped logistically as well.”
