Preparing for this year’s Llanfyllin Show are (back from left) Erin Tomlinson, five and Celyn Roberts, five, (middle row from left) Carwyn Evans, 12 and Elen Evans, five and (front) Llion Evans, nine.

Above and Beyond, the UK’s most experienced aerial company who perform visually stunning and breathtaking aerial displays, are heading to Mid Wales this summer to thrill the crowd at Llanfyllin Show on Saturday, August 13.

International performers combine the grace of dance with acrobatic agility and circus to create unique, highly-skilled, spectacular shows, which move from the ground up to 35ft in the air, finishing with heart-stopping finales. They will perform two, action-packed, 30-minute show routines to keep families entertained.

Known as the “friendly show” because of the warm welcome that always awaits visitors, Llanfyllin Show is held at Bodfach Park, by permission of Simon and Maggie Baynes and Janet Jones.

Around 5,000 people attend the event, which opens at 9am and the last event in the main ring is terrier racing at 6pm. Local sheepdog trials are held on the eve and day of the show.

Always a highlight is the sheep shearing, which brings together some of the best sheep shearers from across Wales.

The Village Green has a full programme of family entertainment planned with children’s activities, performances from the Tanat Folk Dancers and members from the Porthywaen Silver Band.

A fashion show, organised by Jems Dress Agency of Oswestry, will be held in the horticulture marquee.

Other attractions include showjumping, a donkey derby, fun fair, a display by Montgomeryshire Vintage Club, Tanatside Hounds, trade stands, bar and entertainment.

Classes for horses, sheep, goats, dogs, horticulture, floral art, cookery and needlework are always keenly contested.

The 2016 show president is Mrs M. Griffiths from Aston Hall, Oswestry, who is hosting a president’s lunch in a marquee at her home on July 24. This year’s chairman is Emyr Jones, Melindwr, Llwydiarth, near Llanfyllin.

Show schedules will soon be available. For more information contact show secretary Jill Hollinshead on 01691 828628 or visit the show’s website at www.llanfyllinshow.co.uk.
