The donation to the ‘By Your Side’ cancer care appeal, which Peters launched with a ‘big busk’ in North Wales’ three main hospitals on November 20, represents a major milestone in the Alarm front man’s attempt to raise over £350,000 to enhance cancer service across the region.

“I think it’s important that I donate to the appeal because I am asking others to give their time and money,” explained Peters.

“This donation is from a group of incredibly dedicated Love Hope Strength supporters who have been involved in events organised this year through my charity, the Love Hope Strength Foundation.”

The ‘By Your Side’ campaign, which is being run in conjunction with the North Wales NHS Charity, Awyr Las, aims to raise £351,120 over a 30 month period. The total represents a pound for every foot from Ysbyty Gwynedd to Glan Clwyd to Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

In May 2017, Peters will walk this distance and he is encouraging others to join him and get involved in with events and initiatives over the next two years.

Peters was first diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1995, and after going into remission in 1996, he received the devastating news that his cancer had returned as Leukaemia in 2005. Since then, Peters has received regular treatment on the Alaw Unit in Ysbyty Gwynedd.

He said: “As a two-times cancer survivor, I owe everything to the healthcare staff here in North Wales who have provided me with fantastic care since I was first diagnosed with cancer nearly 20 years ago.”

Through his charity, the ‘Love Hope Strength Foundation’ (LHS) which he co-founded in 2007, Mike Peters and his wife Jules have become tireless supporters of cancer services across the world, playing concerts to raise  funds for third world cancer care at Everest Base Camp, the summit of Kilimanjaro, as well as the top of the Empire State Building in New York.

For the last eight years, Peters has organized the annual ‘Snowdon Rocks’ event, which sees hundreds of trekkers climb Snowdon before enjoying a concert at the summit.
