Four goals from predatory striker Carl Lamb helped Colwyn Bay retain the Lock Stock Reserve Division League Cup as they held off a brave Llanberis side 4-3 in a thrilling final at Bangor City’s Nantporth ground.

While Lamb was the chief executioner for Chris Thompson’s Bay side he owed a lot to tricky wingers Adam Whitlock and Sean Sheridan whose ability to unpick the Llanberis defence produced a host of chances.

The Bay also had the dominant midfield influence of the match in 16-year-old Owen Jones whose ability to bring the wide men into play set up Bay’s win.

Lamb completed his hat-trick before half-time when the Bay led 3-1 but never-say-die Llanberis made sure they couldn’t relax by pulling a goal back early in the second half before Lamb restored the two-goal cushion.

A late Llanberis strike after a defensive error meant the Seagulls couldn’t relax but they regained control and saw out the last five minutes comfortably.

In a  carbon copy of last season the Bay added the Lock Stock Cup to their runners-up spot in the Reserve League and a delighted Thompson said: “We had been on a poor run in the last month but we played really well in the final and were in control at 3-1 but a couple of errors let them back in.

“There were two young sides out there and Llanberis gave us a good test but we came through it and although Carl Lamb got the goals it was Adam Whitlock and Sean Sheridan dominated the wings and got plenty of balls into the box for Carl to feed off.

“It’s a good end to the season and the players have developed well and deserved it and we’ve seen a couple go up to the first team and hopefully we can progress some more ready for next season.”

Lock Stock’s Jac Powell, who presented the trophy, said: “It was a real thriller and both sides played well but Colwyn Bay always seemed to have a bit in hand and were deserved winners.”
