The fourth St David’s Hospice Dragon Boat Challenge took to the waters this weekend, drawing its biggest crowd yet.

The popular fundraising event returned to Llyn Padarn, Llanberis with four 40ft Hong Kong Dragon Boats racing to the finish line, whilst raising thousands in the process.

Over 25 teams took part this year and reigning champions Pro Build, Llandudno were crowned the winners in the final heats.

Pam Langton, St David’s Hospice Community Fundraiser said: “Once again, it was such a great atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who entered in to the spirit of the day. The fancy dress outfits were fantastic from Vikings, superheroes and to rowers wearing shower caps and onesies!

“Well done to Pro Build builders, who crossed the finish line dress as ladies”

“It is too soon to say how much the event has raised as sponsorship is still coming in. Last year’s event raised £24,000 and we hope to beat this as we had six extra teams.

“Planning has already begun for next year’s event. Make sure you don’t miss out – get in touch to book your place”

All monies raised on the day and through sponsorship will go towards the St David’s Hospice, a local charity providing hospice care to adult patients across Conwy, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

It currently costs over £2 million to deliver the services at St David’s Hospice. Over 84% of the charities income is generated through community fundraising such as the Dragon Boat event.
