GreenWood Forest Park, Y Felinheli, is well known for being eco-friendly; the majority of its rides and activities require their visitor’s energy to make them work – including their world famous people powered roller-coaster the Green Dragon.

To improve their carbon footprint, the Park is currently installing 550 solar panels in one of their fields next to the Park.

Solar Panels or PV cells are made from layers of semi-conducting material. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers.

The stronger the sunshine, the more electricity is produced. Groups of cells are mounted together in panels or modules that can either be mounted on a roof or on the ground.

Visitors to the Park will be able to learn more about the solar technology and will also be able to have access to the field where the Panels will live.

GreenWood’s Managing Director Stephen Bristow had this to say about the new project: “The panels will generate a maximum of 150kW of electricity.  Each year this should be sufficient for 70% to 80% of the Park’s annual electricity requirements, which means that all our rides and attractions that need electricity will be solar powered from now on.

“GreenWood will be the first solar powered adventure park in the UK!”
