Gwynedd Council has paid tribute to the late Councillor Huw Edwards who passed away today on Thursday, January 29, 2015.

Born at Dwyran, Anglesey and brought up in Bethel, Arfon, Councillor Edwards had represented the Cadnant ward in Caernarfon on Gwynedd Council since 2005, and was also a Caernarfon Town Councillor and had served as Mayor of Caernarfon three times.

Gwynedd Council Chairman, Councillor Dewi Owen said: “Councillor Huw Edwards was very popular amongst his constituents.

“This was mainly due to the fact that he was always willing to fight hard for their interests. A busy and conscientious member, he was elected Chairman of the Council in 2013. He will be missed here.”

Leader of Gwynedd Council, Councillor Dyfed Edwards said: “Huw tirelessly served Caernarfon, Gwynedd and Wales with dignity. His politics transcended party-political considerations and his warm character meant that he dealt with everyone in the same friendly manner.

“I would like to sympathise with his wife Tegwedd, his daughters Nia and Non, along with the whole family. Thank you for Huw’s life, his contribution and his service.”

Wales Express executive editor Linda Roberts said: “I had worked on many stories with Huw over the years. He was passionate about grass roots politics and about the community that he served.

“He was a real battler for justice and for any cause he felt to be unjust.

“He will be sadly missed and I would like to pass on my sincere condolences to his family.”
