Following discussions with Social Services and Antur Waunfawr, Gwynedd Council has introduced improvements to the route of bus service number 88 from Llanberis to Caernarfon which means that the bus now travels into the Cibyn industrial estate.

On the request of the Council’s Social Services, discussions were held between Antur Waunfawr and Gwynedd Council’s Integrated Transport Unit in order to look at the possibility of running a bus service into Cibyn industrial estate for Antur Waunfawr workers in Warws Werdd and Caergylchu. In the past, the bus drove past the Cibyn estate, and didn’t travel into the estate itself.

After an open tendering process for an alternative route for the service into the Cibyn estate, the service was awarded to Express Motors.

Councillor Dafydd Meurig, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Transport, said:  “I’m pleased that we have been able to offer an improved service to users of the number 88 bus service. As soon as the request was made to look at an alternative route to make it easier for Antur Waunfawr workers in Cibyn, the Council’s (Integrated) Transport Unit went to work straight away to consider ways to introduce this change.

“Many thanks to them for all their hard work in ensuring that this would be possible, as well as Antur Waunfawr who gave the scheme their full support. Adding one extra stop to the number 88 bus has made Warws Werdd and Caergylchu workers’ working day much more convenient and I’m pleased that we have been able to work together and introduce this improved service.”

Beth Nicol, Marketing Officer at Antur Waunfawr, said: “I’m extremely proud that this scheme has been realised. It has made travelling to and from work for Warws Werdd and Caergylchu workers in Cibyn much more convenient without impairing too much on bus number 88’s usual service. We are all very grateful to the Council for offering a service like this.”
