A group of talented swimmers from Connah’s Quay Swimming Club and Nofio Clwyd Performance Centre, both based at Cambrian Aquatics Sports Centre, are making a splash following the arrival of several world class starting blocks, courtesy of Anwyl Homes.

Having supported the hugely successful Nofio Clwyd Performance Centre for many years, the housebuilder contributed £1500 towards the Swiss Timing starting blocks with back stroke start wedges, which are the exact same ones used at the Olympics and World Championships.

The starting blocks are used every day by learn to swim, club and performance swimmers, allowing all members of Cambrian Aquatics Sports Centre the chance to practise on, and experience, the very best equipment available.

The arrival of the starting blocks coincides with Nofio Clwyd Performance Centre making waves on a national and international stage.

Elena Morgan, 15, from Connah’s Quay, represented Wales at the Commonwealth Youth Games.  She also joined 15 year old Rhodri Williams from Ruthin and 15 year old Zach Speakman from Sychdyn at the Luxembourg Euro Meet and Golden Tour in Nice, with Elena winning a junior title in Luxembourg and Rhodri winning a gold medal at the British Summer Championships.

The squad attended the British Championships in Edinburgh securing junior final placings against some of the world’s best swimmers, and five swimmers from the Club have been selected to join Swim Wales Development squads.

Claire Anwyl, Marketing Manager at Anwyl Homes, comments: “The Cambrian Aquatics Sports Centre continues to teach, train and support its swimmers to an incredibly high standard and the success they have achieved is very impressive.  We are always happy to give back to the local community and we are thrilled the starting boards are getting good use and proving to be a real hit with all members.”

Simon Morgan, Director at Cambrian Aquatics Sports Centre, says: “The support we receive from local businesses is invaluable and the Swiss Timing starting boards provided by Anwyl Homes are a fantastic addition for the Club, particularly for our performance swimmers.

“The squad are very committed, training for an average of 16 hours every week, and it is important for them and their progression as a competitive swimmer that they have access to world class equipment.  We are grateful to Anwyl Homes for their continued support.”
