St David’s Hospice, a palliative care unit located in Llandudno, offers a specialist Inpatient service and a range of Day Care services to adults with life limiting illnesses from across North West Wales.
To ensure nurses of the future have the skills and experience needed in a hospice environment, the Graduate Nurse Programme has been introduced.
The 12 month structured training programme will provide a hands-on learning experience helping to make a smooth transition from nursing student to professional nurse.
Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Helen Hughes, 26, started at St David’s Hospice as a Staff Nurse. She graduated from Bangor University and after a year of post-grad experience she joined the Hospice palliative care team.
She explains: “I feel so passionate about caring for the palliative patient and their families. It is a real privilege to work at St David’s. It’s a special place to work because we are able to provide tailored, one to one care for our patients
Through the training and guidance provided by the experienced nurses and doctors at the Hospice, you will acquire the specialist clinical skills and knowledge to deliver the best possible care at the end of life.”.
The programme was developed in partnership with Bangor University and offers a paid position, with formal and informal teaching by link nurses, one day a week study for 10 weeks (in a relevant palliative care module) and the chance to become a permanent member of a dedicated and highly specialised team afterwards.

It will offer newly qualified nurses an excellent opportunity to launch their career within this specialist field of nursing, and we are extremely pleased to support this new initiative”
