The actress who plays daughter Caitlin at the centre of the family drama in S4C’s new Wednesday evening series Lan a Lawr admits she is similar to the character she’s portraying.

“Caitlin is quite similar to me in many ways! She’s quite a determined person but also friendly, and cautious of strangers!” says actress Anni Dafydd who comes from Lampeter.

As Lan a Lawr continues on Wednesday, February 4, on S4C, her father, Mal (Dewi ‘Pws’ Morris) arrives in Swansea, but Caitlin (Anni Dafydd) is less than pleased to see him. But what kind of welcome will he receive from everyone else in Maes Gŵyr caravan park?

Mal is now homeless following his separation from Gwen in Llanberis and now that Caitlin knows he is her father, he is keen to make amends with his new family in Swansea.

But with Delia (Beth Robert) still keeping her illness a secret from everyone except him, his visit doesn’t come at the best of times. Angry with Mal and frustrated with Delia, Caitlin turns to Magda (Heulwen Haf) for advice.

“Her relationship with her mother is more like a friendship. They are very close and share everything. That’s why it comes as such a shock to discover her father’s identity – especially as Delia has known for years. That’s why she turns to Magda,” explains Anni.

Anni says that filming the series was great fun – especially working with Heulwen Haf and seeing her apply her fantastic make-up!

“As an actress just starting out, it was a real honour for me to work with established actors who’ve been in the business for years. I learned so much from them in such a short space of time – advice and memories that will stay with me for life.
“It was an unforgettable experience and the cast seemed like family to me by the time we finished filming. I also enjoyed exploring Snowdonia and getting to know north Wales. This is a series that really brings north and south together.”

Lan a Lawr is the first series to appear on S4C as part of the channel’s new Wednesday evening drama slot at 8pm.

The cast of familiar faces also includes Morfudd Hughes, Gwenno Hodgkins and Llion Williams in addition to young new actors such as Anni Dafydd and Annes Elwy. The author is Gareth F. Williams.
